Gianluca Franceschini, Full Professor of General Surgery and Director of the Master’s Program in Integrated Therapies for Female Oncological Pathologies at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“It’s time to evolve in Healthcare: from PDTA to PIDTA
A new paradigm in healthcare to improve survival and quality of life for breast cancer patients.
In oncology, and in particular in senology, we can no longer be satisfied with linear and static clinical pathways.
Today we need a dynamic, personalized and truly integrated model, capable of taking care not only of the disease but of the person as a whole: biology, psychology, lifestyle, expectations, experience.
For this reason, we propose to go beyond the traditional PDTA (Diagnostic, Therapeutic Assistance Pathway) towards a new concept: the PIDTA (Integrated Diagnostic, Therapeutic and Assistance Pathway).
A path in which the “I” of “INTEGRATED” is not an addition but a founding prerequisite to make a difference!
Integrated Therapies – psycho-oncology, clinical nutrition, acupuncture, physiotherapy, shiatsu, phytotherapy, mindfulness, art therapy – have been shown to improve tolerance to treatments, reduce side effects and enhance therapeutic adherence.
These are not “alternatives” but scientifically validated complementary interventions that humanize treatment and make it more effective.
Thanks to Dr. Stefano Magno and the Team of the Integrated Therapies in Senology Unit of the Gemelli Polyclinic for helping to make the treatment path of patients who come to our Breast Center “unique“.
Let’s reflect together on how to concretely bring integrated medicine into our public and private health systems.
Let’s discuss: what are, in your opinion, the necessary conditions to make this cultural and organizational transition real and structural?”
