Gianluca Franceschini, Full Professor of General Surgery and Director of the Master’s Program in Integrated Therapies for Female Oncological Pathologies at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“On Rai Radio 1 I told who I am as a surgeon and who I am as a man.
At ‘La Mezzanotte di Radio 1’, with Monica Setta, I shared my mission: to take care of women with breast cancer.
Not only with surgery but with listening, presence, words that welcome and hands that reassure and heal.
As Director of the Integrated Breast Center of the Gemelli Polyclinic and Full Professor of General Surgery at the Catholic University, I believe that Medicine really works when it combines competence and relationship.
Communicating, welcoming, giving trust and hope are not accessories: they are an integral part of care!
To young doctors: never forget that the technique saves lives but the relationship with the patient builds trust, gives hope and makes a difference in treatment.
In the interview we talked about prevention, early diagnosis, multidisciplinary approach and integrated therapies.
But above all of what is not found in books: the trust that is built and the hope that is given in every encounter.
How important is the relationship between Doctor and Patient for you in the treatment pathway?”
