Gianluca Franceschini: Colosseum Lights Up in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Gianluca Franceschini, Full Professor of General Surgery and Director of the Master’s Program in Integrated Therapies for Female Oncological Pathologies at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“When the COLOSSEUM is tinged with PINK, Prevention becomes Culture and History!

I had the privilege of living a UNIQUE moment that you will not forget!

Seeing the Colosseum, the eternal symbol of Rome, light up in pink for the closing of the campaign ‘Prevention is our Masterpiece’, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and Komen Italia, was much more than an event: it was a powerful message, a luminous caress addressed to all women.

Being present as Director of the Breast Center of the Gemelli Polyclinic, Professor at the Catholic University and Member of the Board of Directors of Komen Italia made me feel the weight and value of the responsibility I carry every day.

A commitment that does not only concern medicine, but life, hope, and the dignity of people.

The evening, guided with sensitivity by my friend Maria Soave, was an interweaving of stories and emotions.

On stage, faces that have been my travel companions for over 25 years:

  • Riccardo Masetti, who gave rise to this extraordinary path called Komen Italia
  • Alba Di Leone, with whom I share a human and professional journey that makes the difference every day

And then the music and the delicate and emotional words of Maestro Giovanni Allevi, the intense presence of Claudia Gerini…

Each one has added a piece to an evening that will remain in the hearts of all of us!

In that Colosseum, shrouded in a different light, I felt stronger than ever the truth of our work as doctors: Caring and prevention are collective missions. They must be done TOGETHER. No one can do it alone!

… and I am aware and happy to lead an extraordinary team of professionals.

Wearing the jersey of the Gemelli Polyclinic, the Catholic University and Komen Italia has always meant, for me, carrying out a commitment that is not only professional. It is profoundly human. It is an act of love. It’s a mission!

Let’s continue to build ‘masterpieces’ TOGETHER: in research, in treatment, in proximity, in prevention.

Because every woman deserves all the best of our skills and our humanity.”
