Clinical Prediction Models to Guide the Selection of Patients for Colon Capsule Endoscopy Versus Colonoscopy Following FIT-Positive Screening

Increasing demand for colonoscopy procedures puts pressure on healthcare systems across the globe.

Through a secondary analysis of data from the CareForColon2015 randomized controlled trial, researchers from Syddansk Universitet – University of Southern Denmark report clinical prediction models that may help identify fecal immunochemical test (FIT)-positive patients suitable for colon capsule endoscopy rather than immediate colonoscopy.

Although external validation is required before clinical implementation, such personalized approaches could reduce unnecessary procedures, ease pressure on endoscopy services, and improve resource use, thus warranting further investigation.”
