George Vlachogiannis: Key Differences Between Early- and Late-Onset Colorectal Cancer

George Vlachogiannis, Managing Editor of Cancer Control at Sage, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Xiaoying Mi et al. published in Sage Journals:

“Differential Analysis of Early-Onset and Late-Onset Colorectal Cancer Based on Multidimensional Evidence Integration: A Review

Early-onset colorectal cancer (EO-CRC) (<50 years) is rising worldwide and is biologically distinct from later-onset disease. EO-CRC more often presents with advanced, left-sided, aggressive tumors and shows higher MSI-H/CIMP, different mutation/microbiome/metabolomic profiles, and prognosis that varies by age, sex, and race/ethnicity.

These features emphasize the need to lower screening ages and deploy risk-based, non-invasive, multi-omics-informed, and microbiome-targeted strategies to catch disease earlier and tailor care.

A comprehensive review on the topic is now out in Cancer Control.”
