IARC launched the European Commission Initiative on Gastric Cancer Working Group under the EU-GAINS Project

IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization shared a post on LinkedIn:

“On 19–21 January 2026, IARC launched the European Commission Initiative on Gastric Cancer (EC-GaC) Working Group under the EU-GAINS project, co-funded by the European Union.

Bringing together multidisciplinary experts from multiple countries, the Working Group will—over the next 22 months and under the leadership of IARC and in collaboration with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC)—develop the first evidence-based European guidelines for Helicobacter pylori screen-and-treat strategies to prevent gastric cancer.

The meeting set the roadmap for guideline development and quality assurance, reinforced use of the GRADE methodology, and aligned EC-GaC activities with key European initiatives- marking an important step toward stronger, coordinated gastric cancer prevention across Europe.”
