Jia (Jenny) Liu, Translational Lead of Early Phase Drug Development at The Kinghorn Cancer Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Sharing this review article published in APJCO Wiley with mixed emotions.
I’m very glad to see it now in print, coauthored with Australian head and neck cancer experts June Corry, Daniel Brungs, Lachlan McDowell, Rob Thorton, Tracey Nicholls, Eng H. Ooi.
But I share it with sadness too.
One of our coauthors, my patient Mr Gary Mar, is no longer with us to see its publication. Gary was not only a patient but a tireless advocate — former Chair of the Gosford Head and Neck Cancer Support Group — who gave so much of himself to raising awareness and supporting others facing this disease.
Grateful for all he has done to advocate and raise awareness for this cancer with very high unmet need.
There is still much to be done in head and neck cancer: earlier diagnosis, predictive biomarkers, stronger multidisciplinary management, and better supportive care. This article is just one step forward, but I hope it also honours Gary’s commitment to making things better for future patients.”
