Françoise Meunier, Vice President of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium, and Founder of the European Initiative on Ending Discrimination Against Cancer Survivors, shared on LinkedIn:
”I am very pleased to announce the High-Level Conference on ‘Right to Be Forgotten as a Human Right: Ending Financial Discrimination Against Cancer Survivors’, taking place on 21 October 2026 in Brussels.
This conference is an initiative I launched to help advance the Right to Be Forgotten across Europe and ensure that cancer survivors are no longer financially penalised because of a past diagnosis.
Together with Professor Mark Lawler, and under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026, we will bring together survivors, policymakers, legal and human-rights experts, clinicians and advocates from across Europe.
The timing is particularly important. Greece has now adopted legislation protecting cancer survivors in relation to credit-linked insurance, while political momentum is also growing in Germany. These developments show that progress is possible, but major differences in protection still remain across Europe.
