Françoise Meunier, Vice President of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium, and Founder of the European Initiative on Ending Discrimination Against Cancer Survivors, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“European Cancer Week is a reminder that cancer care does not end with treatment. It must also include survivorship.
On this occasion, I am pleased to share EDACS main recommendations on the Right to be Forgotten (RTBF), setting out why Europe needs a stronger legal framework to end financial discrimination against cancer survivors.
As cancer survival continues to improve, the RTBF must be considered a fundamental part of cancer care pathways.
Europe now needs to:
- Establish a binding EU legal framework for the RTBF;
- Strengthen national protections and transposing the EU Consumer Credit Directive;
- Activate European legal remedies and accountability mechanisms.
During European Cancer Week, let’s make sure survivorship is part of the conversation, and that cancer survivors across Europe can move forward with dignity, fairness and equal opportunities.”
