Françoise Meunier: A Joint Statement On The Right To Be Forgotten For Cancer Survivors

Françoise Meunier, Vice President of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium, and Founder of the European Initiative on Ending Discrimination Against Cancer Survivors, shared a post by Cancer Patients Europe (CPE) on LinkedIn, adding:

“Ahead of European Patients Rights Day, I support the call for stronger, enforceable protection for cancer survivors across Europe.

While progress at EU level is welcome, voluntary guidance is not sufficient. Many cancer survivors still face discrimination in access to financial services.

It is time for action.”

Quoting Cancer Patients Europe‘s post:

“Ahead of European Patients Rights Day (18 April), we call for equal rights in Europe

CPE, in collaboration with Ending Discrimination Against Cancer Survivors Françoise Meunier, has launched a joint statement on the Right to Be Forgotten for cancer survivors.

While we welcome the progress at EU level, voluntary guidance is not enough. Cancer survivors across Europe continue to face discrimination when accessing insurance, mortgages, and other financial services.

We call on the European Commission and EU policymakers to commit to a harmonised, binding European legal framework on the Right To Be Forgotten protecting cancer survivors, with a maximum five-year post-treatment protection period.

Survivorship must not come with lifelong penalties. It’s time for enforceable protection – not just recommendations.

Read our joint statement and join the call.

The joint statement has been endorsed by Association of European Cancer Leagues, Lung Cancer Europe and Pancreatic Cancer Europe.
