Françoise Meunier, Vice President of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium, and Founder of the European Initiative on Ending Discrimination Against Cancer Survivors, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“On 20 November, during the European Cancer Organisation Summit 2025, the ‘Next Level EU Cancer Survivorship and Quality-of-Life Policy’ report was presented, highlighting both the progress and persistent gaps in supporting cancer survivors’ access to financial services across Europe.
Out of the eight key recommendations for EU institutions, the report urges:
‘Maintain and strengthen binding legislative momentum at national and EU level to protect cancer survivors from unfair financial discrimination and implement a Right to Be Forgotten.’
Furthermore, the report advocates for EU Member States to include a dedicated survivorship pillar in their National Cancer Control Plans, ensuring that post-treatment quality of life and long-term support are systematically addressed.
Recent developments in Ireland and Poland show progress, but more work is needed. National and European legislation must continue to advance, with a five-year timeframe for the Right to be Forgotten.
A special thanks to the European Cancer Organisation for their outstanding organisation of the Summit and to all speakers.
