Florian Lordick: Proud to See the Launch of the ENGIC 06 FRUQUITAS Trial

Florian Lordick, Oncologist, Professor of Medicine at the University of Leipzig, Head of Medical Oncology, Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Central Germany, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Strong science needs strong collaboration across borders.

Proud to see the launch of the ENGIC 06 FRUQUITAS trial – a truly European academic effort bringing together investigators, cooperative groups, and cancer centers from France, Germany, and Spain to improve outcomes for patients with heavily pretreated metastatic gastro-esophageal adenocarcinoma.

This study reflects the spirit of scientific collaboration in Europe:
shared expertise, shared infrastructure, and a shared commitment to addressing persistent unmet clinical needs in upper GI oncology.

The FRUQUITAS trial evaluates whether the combination of trifluridine/tipiracil plus the selective VEGFR inhibitor Fruquintinib can improve survival beyond current standards in later-line metastatic disease.

Particularly encouraging is the strong translational component embedded into the study – integrating ctDNA, proteomics, RNA sequencing, imaging biomarkers, and molecular profiling to better understand response and resistance mechanisms.

Academic intergroup collaborations such as ENGIC are essential to accelerate innovation, generate robust independent evidence, and ensure that patients across Europe benefit from progress in precision oncology.

Congratulations and thanks to all investigators, study teams, cooperative groups, and participating patients making this ambitious project possible.”
