“What if survivorship care started with one simple question:
‘What matters most to you now?’
Proud to share our ASCO 2026 abstract on patient priorities in survivorship care for older adults with cancer.
31 countries
178 healthcare professionals
- 96.2% considered integrating patient priorities very or extremely important
- Only 48.1% reported often or always discussing priorities during survivorship visits
- Only 46% reported using formal tools to assess them
- Time constraints were the most frequently reported barrier
- Interdisciplinary teamwork was the most frequently reported facilitator
This work was led by Dana Giza, whose leadership and vision were central to bringing this international collaboration forward. It was a real pleasure to co-supervise this project as a board member of the Young Interest Group of the SIOG – International Society of Geriatric Oncology.
A special thanks to all co-authors and collaborators across the international geriatric oncology community.
In geriatric oncology, survivorship is more than surveillance and toxicity management. It is about protecting function, autonomy, values, and life goals.
More to come soon.”
