Fatma Bektash, Head of the Patient Education Unit at the Breast Cancer Comprehensive Center, National Cancer Institute, Cairo, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The true impact of patient education is measured not only by what patients know, but by how they cope, adapt, and move forward!
I am delighted to share that our research has been accepted for poster presentation in the Psycho-Oncology section at the ESMO Congress 2026, one of the world’s leading oncology conferences.
Title: Anxiety improves while depression persists after breast cancer diagnosis: Six-month paired Arabic HADS results from an LMIC center.
Our findings showed that while anxiety improved during the first six months after a breast cancer diagnosis, depressive symptoms often persisted, highlighting the importance of continuous psychological assessment and supportive care throughout the cancer journey.
This research reinforces the value of dedicated patient education services as an essential part of comprehensive cancer care. Patient educators play a key role in addressing patients’ informational and psychosocial needs, empowering informed decision-making, and ensuring that education and psychological support continue throughout the cancer journey.
Proud of our co-authors the Patient Education Team. Seeing our work recognized on an international platform reinforces our commitment to advancing patient-centered care through research and evidence-based practice.
My sincere appreciation to Dr Emad Shash and Dr Reem Eid for their continuous mentorship, guidance, and unwavering support throughout this journey.”
