Evelyn Jiagge: A Step Toward Equity in Breast Cancer Care

Evelyn Jiagge, Assistant Scientist/Professor at Henry Ford Cancer Institute/Henry Ford Health System, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Just Launched! Just Launched! Just Launched!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Detection to Recovery, A Breast Cancer Patient Guide

The Precision Medicine for Aggressive Breast Cancer (PMABC) Breast Cancer Patient Education Manual. We are thrilled to unveil a major milestone in our journey to transform cancer care across Africa — the PMABC Breast Cancer Patient Education Manual is officially out!

Officially launched at the PMABC/AORTIC Basic and Translational Cancer Research Symposium 2025 in Accra, Ghana, by the member of parliament of Ghana for Keta HON. KWAME DZUDZORLI GAKPEY, the deputy Clerk of Parliament for the Republic of Ghana, Mrs Gifty Gobah and former PM Hon Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah

This moment underscored just how vital patient education is alongside scientific advancement. Designed for patients, families, and communities, this comprehensive, culturally grounded guide provides clear, compassionate, and practical information about breast cancer — from diagnosis to survivorship.

Why this matters:

Through our work at (PMABC), we have seen how stigma, misinformation, and fear continue to delay life-saving care. This manual bridges that gap — with accurate, accessible content tailored to African realities.

What makes it special?

It was developed and reviewed by African oncologists, surgeons, nurses, public health experts, medical herbalists, survivors, and patients from Ghana and Tanzania — making it one of the most inclusive and context-specific resources of its kind.

Inside the manual:

  • Basic breast cancer education
  • Diagnosis and treatment options — including complementary and alternative therapies
  • Emotional and psychological support
  • Nutrition, wellness, and survivorship guidance
  • Advocacy and research to improve care for all

As Evelyn Jiagge MD, PhD Jiagge, Director of PMABC, reminds us:

‘Access to knowledge should not be a privilege. It is a right. This manual is a step toward equity in breast cancer care.’

With heartfelt thanks to all the patients, families, reviewers, designers, and community leaders who made this possible — and to the Pfizer Institute for Translational Equitable Medicine for their generous support. Special appreciation to all dignitaries, survivors and health leaders who joined us at the launch!

Together, we move closer to a world where no woman faces breast cancer uninformed or alone.”
