The 1st European Cardiovascular Health Plan – European Cancer Organisation

European Cancer Organisation (ECO) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This week, the European Commission launched the first European Cardiovascular Health Plan. Working in tandem with Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, this is an important step toward a coherent, coordinated EU approach to tackling Europe’s two leading causes of premature death.

Both plans place a similar, strong focus on prevention.

  • Instituting stronger tobacco control
  • Reducing consumption of ultra-processed foods, sugar, salt, and saturated fat
  • Providing clearer nutrition information for consumers

ECO President Csaba Dégi said:

‘The release of the European Cardiovascular Health Plan shows that when the EU sets clear goals and backs them with political commitment and funding, tangible progress follows. Using the same pillar structure as Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan sends a clear message that the two initiatives are meant to work together across prevention, early detection, treatment, and quality of life. Europe’s cancer community is keen to work with colleagues in cardiovascular health on shared, life-saving priorities that affect us all.’
