Addressing the Fragmented Use of PROMs in European Oncology Care – European Cancer Organisation

European Cancer Organisation shared a post on LinkedIn:

Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) can help cancer professionals reflect on what patients actually experience during and after treatment. Yet across Europe, their use remains fragmented.

Why is patient feedback still not embedded consistently in cancer care, research and decision-making? The reasons are varied:

  • Lack of standardisation across systems and settings
  • Fragmented digital infrastructure and limited interoperability
  • Workflow pressures and administrative burden for clinicians
  • Limited capacity to analyse and act on patient-reported data
  • Uncertainty around how PROMs should inform regulation and policy

Our next roundtable on 13 July will explore how Europe can move from fragmented implementation to more systematic use of patient-reported outcomes across cancer care.
