The numbers are still much too high, but cancer mortality is on a steady decline in Europe. This is thanks to innovative treatments, prevention policies and organized screening programmes.

But this progress is not shared equally.

The newly updated European Cancer Screening Policy Index reveals persistent gaps between countries, with clear regional divides in access and performance.

Pulling from these findings, the European Cancer Organisation urges national governments to:

  • Align with EU screening ambitions
  • Strengthen data-driven collaboration
  • Improve and modernize screening programmes
  • Prioritize early detection across health systems

Women’s cancer needs must be part of the wider cancer care agenda.

At the European Conference of Oncology Pharmacy (ECOP) 7, Dominika Kormanová, Europa Donna representative and member of ECO’s Patient Advisory Committee, will contribute to a dedicated Women and Cancer session hosted by the European Society of Oncology Pharmacy.

The session will highlight why integrating gender into cancer policy and care is essential for better outcomes, greater equity and stronger collaboration across the cancer community.

The session builds on ECO’s Women and Cancer workstream, including insights from the ‘12 Million Reasons for Action’ policy report and the Women and Cancer Policy Index.

Thank you to European Society of Oncology Pharmacy (ESOP), an ECO Member Society, for creating space for this timely exchange.
