“A major win for health policy in Europe
Today in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted its position for the upcoming negotiations on the next EU long-term budget, calling for a standalone and ring-fenced allocation for health.
Key takeaways:
- For MEPs, health remains a political priority.
- Health matters to politicians across the political spectrum.
The legacy of EU cooperation on cancer policy should be protected.
We applaud all Members of the European Parliament who are supporting a budget that reflects the European way of life: one in which prevention saves lives, cancer care is equitable and accessible to all, and survivors enjoy a quality of life that is secured.
See what former EU Health Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis MEP had to say in the picture below.
But the work is not done yet. The next step is critical. All Member State governments now need to mirror the Parliament’s call and secure health and cancer as long-term EU priorities.
