European Cancer Organisation shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Around 50,000 Europeans are diagnosed with myeloma each year. Yet most receive their diagnosis too late, leading to complications & reduced disease-free survival.
By the numbers:
- Around 34% of myeloma patients report a delayed diagnosis
- Most patients see up to 3 different specialists before receiving a diagnosis, and 21% see more than 3.
To wrap up Blood Cancer Awareness Month, the European Cancer Organisation highlights recommendations from Myeloma Patients Europe:
- Help primary care doctors recognise myeloma early through awareness and practical guidance;
- Consider targeted screening to find patients before they become seriously ill;
- Include strategies in EU and national cancer plans to improve the diagnosis of myeloma and other rare cancers.
