Europa Donna – The European Breast Cancer Coalition shared a post on LinkedIn:
“On World Cancer Day, Europa Donna celebrates the launch of the European Code Against Cancer in all EU languages and highlights the importance of effectively sharing its recommendations.
The 5th edition of the European Code Against Cancer, developed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, includes 14 evidence-based recommendations that support prevention, encourage healthy behaviours, and promote participation in screening programmes – all key to reducing cancer risk and inequalities.
We believe prevention only works when people truly understand the message. Speaking clearly, directly, and in familiar words helps build trust, improve health literacy, and reach communities that might otherwise be left behind. Translating the Code is not just about sharing information — it is about making life-saving knowledge accessible and advancing real health equity.”
David Heathcote, Regional Manager – Europe at Paxman Scalp Cooling, shared this post, adding:
“This is a great campaign from EUROPA DONNA – The European Breast Cancer Coalition to help prevent cancer. Please help to like, comment and repost.
The measures in the ECAC make complete sense. Particularly for me, the drives to improve Active Travel, Workplace Health and Physical Activity.
The complementary policy suggestions are great but, due the time lag in seeing the results, many politicians find it difficult to implement due to existential focus on election cycles. Governments should therefore take their populations on a long-term journey to give them confidence in putting these suggestions in place. National prevention budgets should be protected and set to at least 4% of the existing health budget (so no extra funds needed!). And they should be locked by law into the subsequent parliament to prevent being raided for day to day demands.
EuropeActive and ukactive have great experience to share on preventative health, for example. Governments should also look at International Longevity Centre – UK and the Prevention Index, which ranks countries against holistic measures.
Europa Donna’s 14 recommendations deserve to be considered and we should all do our best to promote them, on a personal and political level. Thanks to European Commission for part funding this work.”
