“Milano, the city with a generous heart and a visionary spirit, played a decisive role in the creation of the European School of Oncology.
Founded in 1981 by Prof. Umberto Veronesi, ESO was built on the legacy of engineer Necchi Campiglio, a philanthropist deeply moved by his own experience as a patient. As Dr Alberto Costa recalls in a recent interview with Il Giorno, this foundation allowed ESO to remain independent and fully dedicated to human-centred oncology education.
Today, almost 45 years later, this vision continues to guide ESO’s mission: educating to improve cancer care, across borders and generations.
