Erika Hamilton, Chair, Executive Committee Breast and Breast Program Lead at Sarah Cannon Research Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today, on Veterans Day, I want to take a moment to honor the incredible veterans who have shaped my life and inspired me through their courage and service.
My husband is a 20-year retired Air Force pilot, whose dedication and service inspire me every day. I’m also proud to recognize Skip Burris, MD, our President at Sarah Cannon Research Institute, for his service as a U.S. Army veteran—his leadership and commitment reflect the same values of discipline and compassion that define both military service and patient care.
I also think of my cousin and my grandmother, who both served our country with pride and purpose. Their legacy reminds me of the many forms bravery can take.
At SCRI Oncology Partners and Sarah Cannon Research Institute, we are privileged to care for many patients who are veterans, bringing the same courage and resilience they showed in service to their fight against cancer. Every day, they remind us that bravery doesn’t only exist on the battlefield—it’s in every infusion chair, every clinical trial, and every patient who faces cancer with determination and hope.
To all who have served and continue to serve—thank you for your sacrifice, your strength, and your example. ”
