Enrique Grande: Why the San Sebastian Genitourinary Cancer Summit Stands Out

Enrique Grande, Medical Oncology Department Director at Quironsalud Madrid, Adjunct Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared a post on X:

“There are congresses that work because of their size. And there are congresses that work because of their density.

The San Sebastian International Genitourinary Cancer Summit is clearly one of the latter.

It is not the largest congress of the year in genitourinary oncology. It’s something harder to achieve: a space where scientific conversation really happens. Where the debates do not end in the auditorium but continue at the table, on the promenade, in the coffee the next morning.

This year, once again, bringing together colleagues from different countries around the issues that most concern us in bladder, kidney and prostate has been a privilege. Not only because of the scientific level – which has been high – but also because of the human quality of those who participate.

Genitourinary oncology is a fast-moving field. Too fast, at times, to process alone. That is why these meetings matter: not only to update knowledge, but to calibrate criteria together with people you trust.

I return to Madrid with clear ideas, open questions and the certainty that this type of international collaboration is an essential part of making oncology better.

Thank you to everyone who made it possible.”
