Emre Kocakavuk, Clinician Scientist in Hematology/Oncology at University Hospital Essen, Young Oncologists Committee (YOC) Member at ESMO, shared on LinkedIn:
“Thinking beyond traditional research ideas.
ESMO26 has been more vibrant and larger than ever (>40K participants).
With half of ESMO members being <40, we were grateful to have a dedicated track for young oncologists.
It was a great pleasure of chairing this session together with Dr Lucy Faulkner and thanks to our brilliant presenters:
Ainhoa Madariaga (Madrid, Spain): Translating new ideas into trials.
Jyoti Bajpai (Navi Mumbai, India): Optimal use of phase IV/real world data.
Sheela Rao (London, UK): Clinical trials in rare tumors.
François-Clément Bidard (Paris, France): Finding new applications of diagnostic technologies.
A few recommendations:
- Be pragmatic and simplify the problem
- Challenge the status quo and current clinical practice
- Seek for support from your environment (mentor, peers, institution, societies etc.)
- Design the trial for the decision and bring a statistician on day one
- Many of the most important questions come from your patients and daily clinical work.”
