Emmy Fleuren: A Day and a Half Full of Inspiration at The Kids’ Cancer Project Research Symposium
Emmy Fleuren, Conjoint Associate Professor at UNSW, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Thank you The Kids’ Cancer Project for a day and a half full of inspiration at the inaugural TKCP Research Symposium!
So many outstanding talks on childhood cancer research across Australia, incl. Dr. Teresa Sadras, Prof Joost Lesterhuis and Children’s Cancer Institute colleagues Noemi Fuentes Bolanos, Marion Mateos, Aaminah Khan, Kenny Ip just to name a few. Excellent panel session featuring our own Maria Kavallaris and Matt Dun, Dr Brenda Weigel, Dr Lauren Ha, who kindly shared some very personal views and experiences on ‘Lessons, Leaps and Landmines’, facilitated by Sophie Scott OAM.
You really brought an excellent group together and I was thrilled to have seen many familiar and new faces. Definitely fuelled some new ideas and potential collaborations. It was extra special to meet and hear from the Amazing Molly Croft (osteosarcoma survivor): you are without a doubt the real superstar here.
Bonus: brief but impactful mentioning of IGF-1R, the target I started my PhD on many years ago, during the panel session by Dr Weigel; lit a little spark inside.
Altogether, so much exciting paediatric cancer research happening in Australia right here right now. Endless thanks to the drive and determination of Col Reynolds, founder of TKCP, and the truly amazing team at The Kids’ Cancer Project for making many of these studies, plus this symposium, a reality.”
