Emmanuel Oisakede: Exploring the Role of Immunotherapy as a Reprogramming Engine in Malignant Cell Normalization

Emmanuel Oisakede, Academic Clinical Fellow Resident at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology:

“It seems 2025 still has some good news before we call it a wrap.

I’m glad to announce that our latest paper, ‘Immunotherapy-Mediated Cancer Reversion: Possibilities and Prospects,‘ has been published in Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology, a Q1 journal.

This work continues our ongoing effort to move cancer reversion from scientific fiction to a credible and testable framework within the oncology community.

It builds directly on our earlier review, ‘Cancer Reversion Therapy: Prospects, Progress and Future Directions’, but with a sharper focus on the role of immunotherapy as a driver of cellular reprogramming.

Rather than viewing the immune system solely as a cytotoxic tool, we explore its potential as a powerful reprogramming engine capable of pushing malignant cells toward normalization.

In this review, we outline several plausible mechanisms, including:

  • Immunotherapy-driven restorative reprogramming
  • Checkpoint blockade inducing IFN-γ–mediated epigenetic and metabolic renewal
  • CAR-T and NK cell therapies reversing EMT and restoring differentiation markers
  • Immune remodeling that normalizes the tumor microenvironment and vascular networks
  • Single-cell omics revealing transitional states bridging malignancy and normalcy

Together, these insights suggest that immunotherapy may do more than eliminate cancer cells,it may help redefine their fate.

Special thanks to my co-authors for the dedication and hard work that made this publication possible.

Exciting times ahead.

2026 will be better!”
