Emmanouil Saloustros: First HeSMO Conference on the Pharmacoeconomics of Cancer

Emmanouil Saloustros, President of the Board of Directors ΕΟΠΕ – HeSMO and Associate Professor of Oncology at University of Thessaly, shared a post by ΕΟΠΕ – HeSMO on LinkedIn, adding:

“Innovation in oncology is no longer the challenge. The real challenge is equal and timely access for patients.

With this in mind, ΕΟΠΕ – HeSMO, through the HeSMO Policy Office, organizes the conference on: ‘Pharmacoeconomics of Cancer: Innovation – Accessibility – Sustainability’.

Pharmacoeconomics is not a discussion about reducing spending. It’s a conversation about how we properly invest the available resources so that every patient has access to the best possible treatment, when they need it.

The sustainability of the health system cannot be achieved through control of expenditure alone. It requires investment in prevention, early diagnosis, biomarkers, precision medicine, real-world data and a comprehensive National Cancer Plan.

It is particularly important that representatives of the State, the academic community, patient associations and the pharmaceutical industry participate in the discussion. Addressing the challenges in oncology requires collaboration, evidence-based dialogue, and a shared vision.

The aim of the HeSMO Policy Office is to transform scientific knowledge into actionable policy proposals, contributing to the formation of a modern, sustainable and equitable oncology care system.

The debate on pharmaceutical economics is not just about numbers.
It’s about people.”
