Emad Shash: Welcoming Colleagues from Kenya to the Breast Cancer Comprehensive Center

Emad Shash, General Manager of the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University, and President of the Egyptian Gynaecological Oncology Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Over the past two inspiring days, we had the privilege of welcoming our colleagues from Kenya to the Breast Cancer Comprehensive Center, National Cancer Institute.

What made this visit special was the depth of engagement, the openness of discussion, and the shared commitment to improving breast cancer care through collaboration, learning, and real-world exchange.

What we covered together
Across interactive, case-based sessions and facility tours, we explored:

  • We delved into the concepts of value-based oncology and the NCI-BCCC model
  • We delved into the complex decision-making surrounding breast cancer.
  • Multidisciplinary care plays a crucial role in this process.
  • The care includes patient navigation, survivorship, education, and psychological support.
  • Practical insights through guided facility tours, focusing on workflows, integration, and patient journeys

Gratitude

  • Our Kenyan colleagues—thank you for the rich discussions, thoughtful questions, and true partnership spirit.
  • NCI speakers and team—your expertise, preparation, and generosity in sharing experience made these two days impactful.
  • Our partners—the Egyptian Cancer Society (ECS), Kenya Society of Haematology and Oncology (KESHO), and AstraZeneca—for enabling meaningful cross-border knowledge exchange.

This visit reaffirmed a simple truth: when we connect expertise across regions, patients win. Looking forward to sustaining this collaboration and translating insights into better outcomes.”
