Elizabeth Mittendorf, Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The past week at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Breakthrough meeting in Singapore was a powerful reminder that the future of oncology will be shaped not only by scientific discovery, but by collaboration across disciplines, institutions, and countries.
From visiting the National Cancer Centre Singapore and participating in the ASCO Asia Pacific Regional Council meeting, to meeting the outstanding early-career investigators in the International Clinical Research Scholars Program, I came away inspired by the talent, innovation, and commitment to improving cancer care throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The scientific program reflected both where oncology is headed and the challenges we must solve together. Thought-provoking discussions explored the integration of AI into clinical care, while the session ‘From Data to Delivery: Equitable Oncology in the Asia Pacific Region’ highlighted the importance of translating innovation into meaningful improvements in patient care across diverse healthcare settings.
Just as meaningful were the opportunities to connect with trainees, early-career faculty, colleagues from around the world, and participants at the Women’s Networking Breakfast. These conversations reminded me that our greatest advances happen when we intentionally invest in one another.
As I continue my ASCO Presidential year, experiences like this reinforce my theme of Intentional Teams. Exceptional Care. Scientific breakthroughs are essential – but it is the teams that discover, implement, and deliver those advances that ultimately improve the lives of people with cancer.
Thank you to everyone who made ASCOBT26 such an inspiring meeting.”
