Elizabeth Awo-Ejeh: From Fear to Faith – Encouraging Women Through Their Breast Cancer Decisions

Elizabeth Awo-Ejeh, Breast Cancer Survivor and Advocate, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Hi, I’ve just been diagnosed with breast cancer and I’m scared to start treatment. People keep discouraging me from going for chemotherapy. Please, what should I do?” Should I start chemotherapy? I’m scared.”

This is one of the most frequent messages I receive from women who’ve just been diagnosed with breast cancer. And every time I read it, my heart pauses…because that fear is familiar. I remember sitting with the same questions. The same confusion. The same overwhelm. The same voices around me saying, “Don’t do it.”

A cancer diagnosis doesn’t only bring medical decisions it brings noise, fear, opinions, and pressure from every direction. Some days, it feels like you’re not just fighting a disease…you’re fighting doubt, misinformation, and emotional exhaustion too.

I was scared. I was discouraged. But I chose to listen to my doctors and trust God through the process. And today, I am here – not as a tragedy, but as a testimony.

Here is what I have learned, from my journey:

• Fear after diagnosis is normal
• Asking questions is wisdom, not weakness
• Chemotherapy is not easy – but it can save lives
• Faith and medicine are not enemies
• Your journey will not look like anyone else’s
• And you deserve support, not pressure

Faith and treatment can work together. Taking chemotherapy does not mean you don’t trust God. Sometimes, God heals through doctors and treatment.

If you’ve gone through chemo, share your experience below. Your story might give someone the courage to start their journey today. Please share your experience, advice, or encouragement in the comments. Your words might be the courage someone is quietly praying for today.”
