Elias Ortega Chahla, Medical Director (Hematology/Oncology), IQVIA, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Honored to have presented at the SNOLA Society for Neuro-Oncology Latin America Conference on the Challenges shaping Neuro-Oncology across Latin America, in São Paulo, Brazil.
This presentation highlighted a reality we can no longer ignore: disparities in access to diagnostics, treatment, and research are not just clinical issues-they are structural. Across LATAM, outcomes are deeply influenced by inequities in health systems, limited molecular diagnostics, and fragmented data generation .
But the message is not one of limitation-it’s one of opportunity.
Now more than ever, we need stronger collaboration across institutions, countries, and disciplines. No single center or nation can close these gaps alone. The future of neuro-oncology in our region depends on coordinated, regional action.
This is where networks like SNOLA, RIANO (Red Iberoamericana de Neuro-Oncología), and LACOG – Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group play a critical role.
These organizations are not just platforms-they are catalysts for change:
- Driving regional collaboration.
- Enabling multicenter research and real-world data generation.
- Promoting equitable access to diagnostics and therapies.
- Building the foundation for LATAM-led clinical trials.
If we align efforts, share data, and invest in collective leadership, LATAM can move from being underrepresented to becoming a global contributor in neuro-oncology innovation.
The call is clear: collaborate, integrate, and lead-together.
Thank you Camilla Yamada, MD, PhD for the invitation and let’s keep on working for a better reality in our region for all of our patients!”
