“Pay-per-Use Model by MedAccess and Elekta – A New Hope for African Countries’ Radiotherapy Services?
Picture this
Instead of hospitals in Africa taking on mammoth upfront costs for radiotherapy machines (costly, complex, maintenance-heavy) — what if they could dial up treatment like streaming a favourite show and only pay when used?
MedAccess in partnership with Elekta recently launched an innovative pay-per-use model to expand access to radiotherapy for cancer in Africa.
A little fun with the serious stuff, You might say:
It’s like Netflix for radiotherapy machines — only you pay when the ‘episodes’ (aka cancer treatments) are played. While not quite binge-watching, hospitals will only pay extra when the machine is in use — a win for sustainability and access.
And yes, someone finally thought: Why buy the whole cinema when we can pay per movie?
Why it matter
Africa faces a serious gap — over half of cancer patients need hashtag#radiotherapy, yet only about half of the countries have access to RT. This model could finally make treatment available, affordable, and sustainable.
What are your thoughts on this?”
