Elaine Shum, Thoracic Medical Oncologist at NYU Langone Health, shared a post on X:
“Honored to present today at WCLC25 updated data from the Female Asian Nonsmoker Screening Study (FANSS) of baseline LDCT scan results in 1000 participants, largest screening study dedicated solely to a nonsmoking population.
– More than 700 enrolled in 2 years.
– Only criteria is Asian woman with no smoking history.
– Baseline lung cancer detection rate of 1.3%.
– 14 participants with Lung-RADS 3-4 remain in f/u.
– 85% with Stage I-II.
– All lung cancers detected with driver mutations (EGFR and HER2).
– More than 50% screened with Lung-RADS 2
Groundglass opacities present a diagnostic challenge highlighting differences between US and Asian management. FANSS is one step forward to expanding lung cancer screening to other high risk populations beyond those with a smoking history.”
