Eftychia Tataridou, Medical Doctor at Theageneio Anticancer Hospital of Thessaloniki, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“On World Cancer Day, the city of Thessaloniki hosted a scientific meeting that reflected not only medical expertise, but also strong institutional and social engagement.
The scientific meeting ‘The Circle of Care’, held at the Theageneio Anticancer Hospital of Thessaloniki, brought together healthcare professionals, oncologists, cancer patient federations from across Northern Greece, institutional representatives and members of the wider community.
The discussions focused on cancer prevention, early diagnosis and holistic cancer care, highlighting the importance of collaboration between science, patients, society and public institutions. Oncologists from the hospital provided evidence-based information on prevention and awareness, engaging the public in open and accessible dialogue.
A particularly meaningful moment was the personal testimony shared by the famous actress Dora Chrysikou, who spoke about her lived experience with cancer, adding a powerful human perspective alongside the scientific discussion.
Importantly, this meeting marked the first scientific event organized under the presidency of Konstantina Boniou, and was met with strong public participation and institutional presence, including the hospital director Nikolaos Kritharidis and representatives of local and regional authorities.
The breadth of participation and the level of engagement demonstrated that such an initiative had not previously taken place in this form, bringing together science, patient voices, institutions and the wider public within a single, coordinated framework.
The meeting highlighted how cities like Thessaloniki can play a central role in advancing cancer awareness and patient-centered care when scientific leadership, institutional support and community engagement converge.”
