“Medical research is complex, especially when you are trying to find answers for a disease that comes in more guises than a Taylor Swift concert.
In fact, ovarian cancer isn’t one disease – it’s more than 30. Each type behaves and grows differently. Even within one individual, ovarian cancer cells can vary – some respond to treatment while others resist or can hide.
This diversity is one of the reasons why early detection is so difficult and why researchers are studying so many different angles, including genetics, biomarkers, and how the immune system interacts with tumours.
Thankfully, Australia has some of the world’s leading ovarian cancer researchers on the job, bringing deep expertise and out-of-the-box thinking to outsmarting this insidious disease.
