Eduard-Alexandru Bonci: Some Weeks Leave You With More Than New Knowledge

Eduard-Alexandru Bonci, Editorial Board Member at Discover Journal Series, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Some weeks leave you with more than new knowledge.

They send you home with sharper questions, deeper gratitude, and a renewed sense of purpose.

From 9-16 May, I spent a truly meaningful week in Milan.

The week began at Università Bocconi with the ‘Leading Innovation for Better Outcomes and Performance in Cancer Care’ course, organized by SPCC (Sharing Progress in Cancer Care) and SDA Bocconi 🎓🏛️

It was a day centered on a question that matters deeply in oncology: how do we lead change in a way that is measurable, sustainable, and genuinely useful for patients?

I then had the great opportunity to spend one week at Ospedale San Raffaele, in the Breast Unit led by Prof. Oreste Davide Gentilini.

Besides learning about surgery, multidisciplinary care, and Breast Unit organization from one of the best, this week was also about something equally important: connecting more deeply with the people I have had the privilege to collaborate with through the Cinderella Project and EUBREAST.

What stayed with me most was both simple and powerful: excellence in cancer care is not built through one brilliant decision.

It is built through systems, leadership, culture, and people who make good decisions possible, reliable, and patient-centred every day.

I am deeply grateful to the SPCC (Sharing Progress in Cancer Care), Lucia Ferrara, Elisabetta Trinchero, Marco Pierotti, Matti Aapro and Pietro Presti.

A heartfelt thank you as well to my friends and Cinderella Project partners (Prof. Oreste Davide Gentilini, Rosa Di Micco, and the entire Ospedale San Raffaele Breast Unit team) for their teaching, generosity, openness, and warm hospitality.

A week that connected ideas with surgical practice, Breast Unit leadership, collaboration, friendship, and soul.

And a week I will carry with me with gratitude.

I return home with renewed energy, a full heart, and many reasons to feel grateful.”
