A bipartisan Senate spending bill would temporarily block the recent federal proposal to give political appointees total control over federal research grants.
While the proposal contains several concerning elements, Blood Cancer United and so many across the medical research community are particularly concerned that it could sideline the peer-review process, disrupt ongoing research, discourage international scientific collaboration, and inject politics into decisions that should be driven by scientific expertise and patient needs.
This positive development reflects the collective efforts of researchers, patient advocates and organizations across the country that have spoken out about the importance of protecting the integrity of the scientific review process.
