Drew Moghanaki, Professor, Chief of Thoracic Oncology at the Department of Radiation Oncology and Stanley Iezman and Nancy Stark Endowed Chair in Thoracic Radiation Oncology Research at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and Chief Medical Officer of Respirati, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Oncologists who want to be considered contemporary should use contemporary language. For example, the term “toxicity” was introduced by the NCI in the 1980s and fully retired in 2002.
For more than 20 years, the NCI has recommended reporting side effects as “adverse events.” Therefore, those who continue to use outdated terminology raise questions about whether they are truly current, or merely appear to be.”
