“Medical Elective Part 3 – finally, this month my summer elective / observership saga brought me to the Neuro-Oncology department at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in central London.
This was a highly insightful experience as it was my first exposure to Clinical (Radiation) Oncology, as well as an introduction to Neuro-Oncology, and all of this at the leading cancer center in Europe.
During my time with the department, I was very privileged to shadow a variety of clinics; multidisciplinary meetings; radiotherapy contouring, planning and treatment; and even contributing to a service evaluation project focusing on radiosurgery for vestibular schwannoma. I was able to learn about a range of brain tumors, including glioblastoma, meningioma, vestibular schwannoma, and brain metastases.

Thanks also to Francesca Solda, Adnan Akhtar, Stephen Robinson and all the other consultants, registrars and healthcare staff in the Neuro Oncology team for your supervision, for your teaching and support, and for welcoming me into your clinics and teams!
