Donjeta Zeqa: Why People Should Not Postpone Their Health Check-Ups

Donjeta Zeqa, President at Europa Donna Albania, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“At the beginning of each summer, I usually do my routine check-ups.

I do this for several reasons: I want to enjoy the holidays calmly, without stress in my mind, while September and October are the most intense months for me professionally. During that period, frankly, I have neither the time nor the desire to deal with my health issues. And of course, breast screening is always a priority.

Despite years in this field, despite hundreds of conversations with patients, hundreds of stories I’ve heard, support and advice I’ve given, I’ve never been able to eliminate the anxiety and stress before my breast checkup.

I know that many girls and women postpone routine check-ups for fear of an answer. And, to be honest, even though I face the reality of this disease every day, I fall prey to the same anxiety, the same uncertainty, and the same fear that not responding is not what I hope for.

But it is precisely for this reason that we should not postpone the control.

Early diagnosis saves lives. The earlier a problem is detected, the greater the chances of successful treatment.

Therefore, even if you don’t have any concerns, don’t neglect routine breast screening. Self-care is not a luxury. It is a responsibility to yourself and to those who love you.

Don’t expect symptoms. Don’t wait for “a more opportune moment.” Do the check-up. On time.

P.S. My doctor can confirm that I am a pretty annoying patient. Every movement of his hand during the echo, every second of silence or every change in his facial expression prompted me to ask him 100 more questions.

This time, after finishing the check-up, he told me:

‘Look, it’s different to keep your health under control, it’s different to ask for it hard. You have nothing… Go now!'”
