Digestive Cancers Europe shared a post on LinkedIn:
“On World Pancreatic Cancer Day, patient organisation partners of the DISCERN Project, Digestive Cancers Europe (DiCE), and Pancreatic Cancer Europe (PCE) gathered at the European Cancer Organisation’s European Cancer Summit 2025.
On this day, as we highlight those affected by Pancreatic Cancer, we renew our commitment to amplify patient voices, address disparities, and drive progress through research such as the DISCERN Project. DISCERN, coordinated by the IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization and funded under the EU’s Horizon Europe Cancer Mission, aims to uncover causes of three under-researched cancers, including pancreatic cancer.
Key goals of DISCERN include:
- Creating a comprehensive European biorepository merging population-based cohorts (with data on lifestyle, environment, and behaviour) and tumour case series.
- Applying advanced exposomics, proteomics, and genomics to identify new risk factors and causal pathways.
- Using organoid and stem-cell models to understand how identified risk factors promote cancer development in normal and tumour tissues.
- Turning discoveries into action: DISCERN is dedicated to sharing findings with patients, citizens, and policymakers to improve prevention strategies.
By establishing this strong evidence base, DISCERN can inform new prevention approaches, reduce geographical inequalities, and ultimately lower the burden of pancreatic cancer across.”
