”One of the biggest lessons I have learned as a leader is that my job is no longer to solve every problem myself. That did not come naturally. I am a physician. I was trained to diagnose, to act, to fix. The instinct to step in is deeply ingrained.
Over time, I have come to appreciate that healthcare is a team sport. The best outcomes rarely come from one person having all the answers. They come from creating an environment where talented people can do their best work together.
Every day I see physicians, nurses, researchers, therapists, environmental services staff, and countless others making decisions that improve a patient’s experience. My job is not to solve every problem. It is to create the conditions where talented people can solve them together.
That kind of culture is not separate from the care we provide. It is the foundation for it.
That is why I have come to believe something very deeply: the best place to work becomes the best place to receive care.”
