“It was a privilege to co-chair the 2026 FLASCO Hematology Conference, “Precision Approaches in the Modern Era,” alongside Jose Sandoval Sus, this past weekend.
The meeting brought together hematology experts from across Florida and beyond for practical, highly interactive discussions focused on the decisions we face every day.
Our myeloid session featured outstanding presentations and debates from Talha Badar, Rushang Patel, Jennifer Marvin-Peek, Namrata Chandhok, and Jonathan Feld. Discussions addressed whether we have truly achieved precision medicine in myeloid malignancies, intensive versus lower-intensity therapy for fit AML, and whether luspatercept should be used frontline for all patients with lower-risk MDS.
A particular highlight was our rapid-fire review of the summer oncology meetings, with faculty discussing which emerging data are truly ready to change clinical practice in 2026. I also had the pleasure of joining Rami Komrokji for a discussion on implementing shared-care models to improve outcomes for patients with AML.
Thank you to FLASCO, our outstanding faculty, and everyone who attended and contributed to such thoughtful and engaging discussions. The quality of the debates reflected the central challenge of modern hematology: translating increasingly precise therapies into practical, individualized care for every patient.”
