David Ryan: NEJM Case Highlights a Promising Therapy for Recurrent Ameloblastoma

David Ryan, President at Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“At Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, we are committed to bringing new treatment possibilities to patients facing cancers and tumors with few effective options.

In a recent letter published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM Group), our colleague Samuel Klempner describes a remarkable response in a patient with recurrent ameloblastoma, a rare and often difficult-to-treat tumor. The report highlights the potential of a novel therapy designed to target a key driver of the disease in some patients.

While this is a single patient experience and much more research is needed, it offers an encouraging example of how advances in precision medicine can help us identify new ways to treat even the rarest cancers and tumors. For patients who have exhausted conventional options, discoveries like these provide hope and help pave the way for future clinical research.

Congratulations to Sam, who ably serves as our medical oncology program director for gastro-esophageal within our MGBCI GI disease group – and to all his collaborators. Every breakthrough begins with asking difficult questions and pursuing better answers for patients.”
