David O’Malley, Professor and Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology, Co-Director, The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, shared American Oncology Network’s post on LinkedIn, adding:
“The James Cancer Network’s new affiliation with Zangmeister Cancer Center is a milestone worth celebrating and one that feels deeply personal to our team.
For over two years, the Gynecologic Oncology division at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute has been actively collaborating with Zangmeister physicians, seeing patients together, partnering on complex clinical decisions, and building genuine trust between NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center specialists and the community oncology team where many of our patients receive their day-to-day care. That work was deliberate. Relationships precede structure. Clinical trust precedes affiliation agreements. We believe that sustained collaboration helped lay the groundwork for what is now a formal institutional partnership.
What excites me most about what comes next is the opportunity to bring collaborative clinical trial access to Zangmeister patients directly. Cutting edge therapies, including investigational agents and novel combinations, can now be available to patients where they live, not just at an academic medical center downtown. That is how you close the gap between innovation and access in oncology.
Through The James Cancer Network, we are working so patients across central Ohio will now have a seamless path to more than 500 clinical trials, CAR T cell and TIL therapy, proton therapy, and subspecialized oncology expertise while staying connected to the care teams they know and trust.
This is the model academic and community oncology working together, not in parallel. Proud of what our teams have built and grateful to the physicians and staff at Zangmeister who made this collaboration real from the very beginning.”
