David García Illescas, Clinical Investigator at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“New study from the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) Gynaecologic Cancer Programme, published in Cancers MDPI: we analysed platinum rechallenge in 63 patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer following a prolonged period of non-platinum treatment.
Objective response rate was 57% overall (77% in BRCA-mutated vs. 50% in BRCA wild-type patients – see Panel C), with a manageable safety profile.
These findings add to the discussion on whether platinum resistance may not always be a fixed state, with BRCA status, platinum-free interval, and prior treatment lines as variables potentially worth considering in this setting.
As a retrospective, single-centre analysis with a limited BRCA-mutated subgroup, these results should be considered hypothesis-generating and require prospective validation with broader molecular characterisation.
