Dato’ Dr Saunthari Somasundaram: Meaningful Milestones for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia

Dato’ Dr Saunthari Somasundaram, President of the National Cancer Society Malaysia, shared a post on LinkedIn:

World Cancer Day is a powerful reminder that progress against cancer is built through collaboration, commitment and action.

This year’s celebration marked several meaningful milestones for The National Cancer Society of Malaysia, each reflecting our shared mission to strengthen prevention, access and patient support across the cancer care continuum.

  • The launch of the NCSM–PDHS VALENS Support Fund, in partnership with Pharm-D Health Science, to improve access to specialised nutritional support, education and awareness for patients who need it most.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding with SBS Nexus Berhad to implement the LungShield Initiative, integrating lung cancer awareness, prevention and early screening into a structured CSR and ESG-driven platform that mobilises private-sector participation.
  • The rollout of Kempen Mai Kurang Gula, Garam dan Kalori, a workplace-focused health initiative encouraging healthier food environments through collaboration with corporates and catering providers.
  • The formalisation of collaboration between the Ministry of Health and key Civil Society Organisations, strengthening national efforts in NCD prevention, community screening, patient empowerment, advocacy and policy support.

These milestones reaffirm one truth: meaningful cancer control requires a whole-of-society approach. Together, with government, industry, civil society and communities, we can build a more inclusive, effective and people-centered health ecosystem for Malaysia.”
