Dario Trapani: Key Reflections from the Italian Melanoma Intergroup Annual Meeting

Dario Trapani, Medical Oncologist at European Institute of Oncology, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Returning from the annual meeting of the Italian Melanoma Intergroup (IMI) in Catania, I would like to share key reflections and thank all colleagues for the constructive exchange!

The meeting was extremely stimulating and focused on crucial issues for the future of cancer care:

Dose Optimization in Immunotherapy: We have thoroughly discussed the dose optimization of immunotherapy, a key element in maximizing efficacy and minimizing toxicity.

Access and Sustainability: The debate focused on the prospects for access and system sustainability of innovative therapies, aware of the global and local status quo.

Interventional Pharmacoeconomics an essential approach for a rational management of resources, which using the evidence and models of clinical pharmacology generates clinical interventions aimed at the safety and sustainability of the system, paradigmatically with the generation of evidence and implementation of the low dose IO following the example of Dutch and Canadian HTA

Value of Evidence: We explored the importance of rigorous evidence-based work, using as an example the Near Equivalent Concept that Dr Dirk Arnold launched at the last ESMO25 in Berlin, to ensure data-driven decisions and optimise patient outcomes and system sustainability.

A special thanks to all the colleagues with whom I had the pleasure of discussing, to the president dr Mario Mandalà for the invitation and the new board IMI for including me in the event!

I am admired by the commitment of my colleagues, in a multidisciplinary and close-knit intergroup, in openly discussing and designing study projects aimed at optimizing care, in the genesis of innovation in oncology, and how a collaborative group can make a difference for patients, for the community and for the system!”
