Cynthia Jordan: Do all women with DCIS need radiation?

Cynthia Jordan, Founder of Learn Look Locate, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Do all women with DCIS need radiation?

For years, many women diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) were told radiation therapy would be part of their treatment after a lumpectomy.

Today, we know the answer isn’t that simple. Not all DCIS behaves the same way.

Two women can both be diagnosed with Stage 0 breast cancer, yet their risk of recurrence may be very different. That means the benefit of radiation may be different, too.

So the question isn’t simply:

‘Do I need radiation?’

It’s:

‘Will radiation truly benefit me?’

Our newest Learn Look Locate educational resource explores how treatment decisions are becoming more personalized, including how the PreludeDx DCISionRT® test can help provide additional insight into your individual biology and recurrence risk to support conversations with your care team.

Inside this resource, you’ll learn:

  •  Why two women with the same DCIS diagnosis may have different treatment recommendations
  •  What ‘low risk’ and ‘higher risk’ really mean
  •  When lumpectomy alone may be part of the conversation
  •  How the DCISionRT test works
  •  What questions to ask your doctor before deciding about radiation therapy
  •  Answers to the most common questions women have after a DCIS diagnosis

At Learn Look Locate, we believe every woman deserves to understand why a treatment is being recommended—not just what is being recommended. When you understand your options, you can have more meaningful conversations with your healthcare team and make decisions with greater confidence.

This educational resource was developed through a paid collaboration between Learn Look Locate and PreludeDx.

As always, our content is created to educate and empower patients. Treatment decisions should always be made with your own healthcare team.”

Stephanie Grimaldi- Lang, Founder and Interior Decorator at Decorating Diva Designs, shared Cynthia Jordan’s post, adding:

“This is such a difficult question because everyone’s situation is different. For me, it was the right decision since my doctors couldn’t determine where my cancer had started.

I feel incredibly grateful that I had this option available to me. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was one I made after many conversations with my family, support system, and medical team. In the end, it was the choice that gave me the most peace and confidence.”
